Deirdre Mac Donald, President

The President is elected at Annual Convention. The President takes sabbatical leave for the duration of the one year term of office and is based in Head Office. The President presides over Annual and special Conventions and meetings of the committees of the ASTI.

Kieran Christie, General Secretary

The General Secretary represents and promotes the interests of the union and its members in relation to salary and conditions of employment and the well-being of the education service at a national and international level. He is entrusted with managing the daily business of the ASTI and the execution of ASTI policy.

Diarmaid de Paor, Deputy General Secretary

The Deputy General Secretary supports the General Secretary in his national role. He deputises for the General Secretary and has specific responsibility in the area of communication and education policy, relations with parents, aspects of Conciliation and Arbitration and the interests of principals and deputy principals.

Moira Leydon, Assistant General Secretary

Moira Leydon is Assistant General Secretary with responsibility for education and social policy development. Areas of responsibility include curriculum and assessment; national education policy; special educational needs; teacher professionalism; youth policy, including well-being; educational leadership; global education issues. 

Jacqueline Kearns, Executive Officer: Administration

Jacqueline has responsibility for the general administration of ASTI Head Office and the co-ordination of conventions, conferences, seminars. She also oversees meeting room arrangements.

Gemma Tuffy, Executive Officer: Media/Communications

Gemma works to develop and maintain a positive public profile for the ASTI and its members and is involved in media liaison, public relations, political lobbying, policy development, publications and communications, website supervision and development. Gemma also acts as co-ordinator of the ASTI media representatives.

Pádraig Murphy, Honorary Treasurer

The Honorary Treasurer is responsible for the administration of the funds of the Association. The Treasurer is involved in the negotiation of ASTI financial benefits and advises individual members of those benefits. The Treasurer also advises individual members with queries on the salary protection scheme and the disability pension scheme.

Bernard Moynihan, Executive Officer: Industrial Relations

Bernard works as executive officer with responsibility for industrial relations. He is involved in assisting and representing teachers as well as a wide range of other industrial relations activities.

Maire Collins, Executive Officer: Industrial Relations

Maire works as executive officer with responsibility for industrial relations. She is involved in assisting and representing teachers as well as a wide range of other industrial relations activities.

Ann Marie Ryan, Executive Officer: Industrial Relations

Ann Marie works as executive officer with responsibility for industrial relations. She is involved in assisting and representing teachers as well as a wide range of other industrial relations activities.

Conor McDonald, Executive Officer: Industrial Relations

Conor works as executive officer with responsibility for industrial relations. He is involved in assisting and representing teachers as well as a wide range of other industrial relations activities.

Desmond O'Toole, Executive Officer: Organisation and Development

Desmond works as executive officer with responsibility for organisation and development. He is involved with recruitment, branch development and trade union training as well as a range of other trade union activities.
