The ASTI is expressing its full support for the Debenhams workers. We support the joint initiative by their trade union Mandate and the ICTU, which is designed to secure urgent enactment of legislation which would help resolve the intractable dispute and ensure that guarantees for workers finding themselves abandoned by their employer in similar circumstances will not happen in future.
ASTI is adding its voice to the campaign calling on the Government to introduce legislation to protect terms and conditions of employment in the event of receiverships and liquidations of businesses.
The main recommendations of the Duffy / Cahill report should be implemented as a matter of urgency.
