ASTI responds to Exams announcement
Commenting on the announcement by Minister for Education and Skills Joe McHugh that this year’s Leaving Cert oral examinations, practical exam in music, and practical exams in Junior Cert music/ home economics have been cancelled, ASTI President Deirdre Mac Donald said:
“This is an unprecedented, unpredictable and challenging time. In these circumstances, which are continuously evolving, there is no perfect solution. Today’s announcement will allay the anxiety felt by students around the uncertainty of the timing of the orals and other practical exam components which were initially scheduled for next week. Equality is a really important aspect of Ireland’s state examination system and the ASTI will work with the Department of Education and Skills and the State Examinations Commission to ensure that students continue to benefit from this. Students should carry on with their preparations for their examinations in line with their teachers’ guidance and advice.
“All of this disruption and change has come about due to the advice of our national public health experts, that we must act collectively and in solidarity to assist in positioning the country to be able to help those most in need in the coming weeks.
“All over the country, teachers continue to support their students in their learning and in other aspects of their lives at this time. All of the work done by students in preparation for orals and practicals will stand them in good stead for the written exams.”
