The ASTI is a democratic trade union. Policy decisions are made by ASTI members in democratic ballots and by elected ASTI representatives such as Standing Committee, Central Executive Council and by delegates attending ASTI Annual Convention.

The ASTI’s current industrial relations strategy is the subject of ongoing consideration and review by the union via its democratic structures.

In the most recent ASTI ballot, members voted by 52.5% to 47.5 to reject proposals which included signing up to the Lansdowne Road Agreement. This ballot was conducted in January 2017 and the result was announced in February 2017. The outcome of this ballot has been the subject of ongoing review, most recently by ASTI Convention delegates at Easter.

The ASTI is a vibrant and democratic trade union which welcomes diverse views and facilities and supports open debate amongst our membership.

ASTI members are currently engaged in industrial action – a list of industrial action directives in operation is available here.

All members and their branches are represented on ASTI Standing Committee and on the Central Executive Council. Both of these bodies are meeting this week and as a matter of course reviews all issues.
