Humanitarian crisis in Gaza

The catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza continues to worsen day by day.

Massive shortages of food, drinking water, sanitation and medicines together with death from hunger, common infections or diseases is widely reported.

The ASTI calls for the immediate unimpeded provision of medicine, food, water, fuel and other desperately needed aid into Gaza.

Most of Gaza’s schools and all of its universities have been severely damaged and are rendered unusable according to the United Nations.

The prospects for Palestinian children are bleak. There has already been a long gap in the education of students at all levels and now they face a future without school buildings and educational resources to return to after the war ends.

The ASTI calls on all parties to respect international humanitarian law and international human rights law, and to protect educational institutions, teachers, and students.

The ASTI stands in solidarity with the teachers, students, and communities in the region and calls on the international community to do their utmost to stop the bloodshed and end the catastrophic humanitarian crisis. The violence, in all its forms and from all parties must end.

The importance of dialogue and the preservation of the values of education and peace were never more critical.

The consequences of armed conflict are devastating and far reaching, with profound impacts on the people in the region, who are entitled to a future free from violence and war.
