ASTI is supporting Fórsa trade union's Support our Secretaries campaign for better pay and conditions for school secretaries. Fórsa has been hosting a series of nationwide public meetings as part of the campaign. A meeting will take place in Galway on Wednesday the 27th of March, The Harbour Hotel, New Dock Street, Galway at 8pm, and in Limerick on Thursday the 28th of March, Fórsa Midwest regional office, Roxborough Road, Limerick at 7pm.
Fórsa estimates that around 90% of all school secretaries are denied basic entitlements such as sick leave and pension rights. Many school secretaries work for as little as €12,000 a year.
