The ASTI Standing Committee today decided to advise the union’s Central Executive Council to recommend to ASTI members that they reject the draft Public Service Stability Agreement.
Under ASTI rules, pay agreements must be considered by the union’s 180-member Central Executive Council.
ASTI President Ed Byrne said: “While some of the proposals contained in the draft Agreement would provide some benefits for teachers, unequal pay – which is a major issue for ASTI members – will not be eliminated. In addition, the draft Agreement does not contain any commitment to reduce the Croke Park hours which teachers find unproductive and disruptive to their core work and duties.”
The INTO and TUI executives have recommended to their members that they reject the draft Agreement.
The ASTI’s Central Executive Council will meet in early autumn to discuss the draft Public Service Stability Agreement.
