The Department of Education and Skills have issued a Circular to schools (click here to view) that sets out the terms of the Supervision and Substitution Scheme – Opt-out and Opt-in arrangements.
Key Points:
Friday August 11 2017 is the deadline date for submission of opt-out/ opt-in forms to your school principal. Please return your form as soon as possible. (Forms are included in the Circular).
If you are in the scheme and wish to continue this arrangement you do not have to submit a form.
If you have previously opted out of the scheme and wish to continue arrangement you do not have to submit a form.
To opt-out you must have 15 years teaching service in an Oireachtas-funded post.
The salary reduction for opting out is €1,796 per annum. This will have the effect of reducing pensionable salary by this amount, except in the case of a teachers opting out who are retiring on or before 1 April 2019.
To opt in you must have been in service during the 2012/13 school year, be in service in the 2016/17 school year, and be in a position to carry out S&S duties for a minimum of 10 years prior to retirement.
Where an eligible teacher is not in a position submit their form during the summer, a review can take place in September in respect of a further opt-out/ opt-in opportunity during the school year.
