Wexford teacher receives ASTI Bursary

Lorraine Kelly, a teacher at Gorey Community School, Co. Wexford will receive an ASTI Bursary at a reception in Dublin tonight (Friday, May 24th).

Currently enrolled in the Graduate Diploma Course in Inclusive and Special Education at DCU, Lorraine plans to continue with her studies towards a Masters in Special Educational Needs commencing in October 2024.

The main focus of Lorraine’s research thesis will be on team teaching, and in particular how team teaching is utilised to promote inclusion for students with general learning disabilities in mainstream Junior Cycle classes. She is specifically interested in current issues affecting the education and quality of life for learners with special or additional educational needs. Lorraine hopes that her findings will improve the strategy of using team teaching within these classes.

The ASTI Bursary Award scheme assists ASTI members in undertaking further studies relating to teaching, education or trade unionism.
