Advice re. Department Circular on SLARs
The ASTI is advising members to vote against all of the options set out in Circular Letter 0017/2020 for the scheduling of Subject Learning and Assessment Review (SLAR) meetings in schools.

The ASTI has accused the Department of Education and Skills of issuing a Circular to schools which is at variance with agreed arrangements for the scheduling of Junior Cycle Subject Learning and Assessment Review (SLAR) meetings.

Elect ASTI-endorsed Teaching Council candidates
The Teaching Council Elections take place from February 24th to March 11th. Electing ASTI-endorsed candidates to the Teaching Council will help to ensure ASTI members’ concerns are considered by the Teaching Council.
Teacher Fee Refund Scheme 2019
If you successfully undertook a course/ part of a course of study between 1st September 2018 – 31st August 2019 you may be eligible for a partial refund of course or examination fees through the Teacher Fee Refund Scheme.
ASTI 2020 survey on class size
ASTI survey on class size and the junior cycle is now live. Over 10,000 members have received an invitation by email to take part in the survey which is focused on the quality of the physical learning environment in schools. The results of this survey will enable the ASTI to promote its campaign on class size . All members are encouraged to participate in the survey for maximum response.

Political parties must commit to increased investment in education
The ASTI is calling on the political parties to ensure children and young people are prioritised by the next Government by committing to spending 2% of GDP on second-level education, which would bring Ireland into line with the OECD average.
ASTI to ballot on industrial action over unequal pay
The ASTI Central Executive Council has voted to ballot the union’s 17,000-plus members on industrial action over the unequal pay of teachers who entered the profession since 2010.
